Q. How do I cope with my first nights and days home from the NICU?
A. It’s OK to be fearful! As long as you’ve discussed any concerns with your baby’s care team or pediatrician and have a plan in place should an issue arise, you can sit back, be confident in the skills you’ve learned, and enjoy your baby. Find the few minutes each day to care for yourself—reading or catching up on social media while you pump, or any activity that helps you relax. But note, while it’s normal to feel “baby blues,” anxiety, or guilt here and there, if you feel it’s overwhelming you, discuss those feelings with your health-care provider immediately.
